One Two Three Tweet!

By floshow25 | June 3, 2009

By now, you have probably heard of Twitter. This is the social networking, short messaging service that has made “tweeting” a commonly used word in the media lately. Twitter was started in 2006 in San Francisco by a company that came up with it to use internally. Now there are over a million users that “tweet” everyday, by sending text messages up to 140 characters. There are two kinds of “tweets”: broadcast and discussion “tweets”.

Tweeting is a way businesses are gathering prospects and keeping in touch with customers, giving the latest news or blog and website promotion. It also allows a business to get rapid feedback from new releases of their product. It is becoming widespread because you can “tweet” on your mobile device and can work as a word of mouth way to advertise for a business.

To Twitter, there are just a few tips. You want to follow and socialize with other people, don’t lie or exaggerate, and respond to or promote your twits. In order to one, two, three, Tweet, you have to follow the basic guidelines. Once you get the hang of it, you may find yourself spending a lot of time “tweeting”.

Some companies have put their salespeople on Twitter for networking and building prospects, but have also found some of them dropping in productivity. It is important to monitor the usage, as it is easy to get distracted and have the “tweeting” become too personal or non-applicable.

Because it is a fairly new marketing media, some companies are not sure about the success that “tweeting” has had and many of them are doing it now because everybody else is. Whether it has any kind of drastic impact on sales may remain to be seen because there are still a lot of people that don’t know about “tweeting” or only want to use it for a personal social network.

Some critics argue that if it becomes inundated with business advertising that many of the socializing “tweeters” may spend more time on the traditional social networking sites like FaceBook or MySpace. So far, that criticism hasn’t rung true and everybody is getting into the “tweeting” craze. That may be something you want to consider when it comes to considering Internet marketing options for your business.

Since more and more people are using the Internet for the convenience and ease of search engines in finding their websites, “tweeting” is just one more technology that you can put to use to push your blog or website that can reach a lot of prospects and make them want to learn more about your business. When the Internet first came out, many people were skeptical about doing business or getting on there. Now it has made the global marketplace a reality.

Learning to “tweet” is as easy as one, two, three, and should be considered a part of your marketing campaign for your business. Responding to your twits may be something you will need to devote some time to, but you could find you are able to capture additional prospects and make more sales.
